Green IO New York, ICT4S, GreenForum Berlin, Green IO Munich, … Eventually responsible technologists have more and more places to meet, learn, share, and grow our community. A world of opportunities and … frustrations because many of us cannot attend all these great conferences. This is why, starting this month, we created a new section in our newsletter “Couldn’t attend?… we’ve got it covered for you” where members of the Green IO community share their main takeways of a conference. Let us know what you think about the initiative, and feel free to reach out to us if you attend a conference and want to contribute.

Green IO New York was nothing short of energizing — a gathering filled with insight, candor, and real-world impact. Our speakers (from veterans to trailblazers) didn’t just share best practices, strategies, and tools — they brought vulnerability, hard-won lessons, and truth about the real challenges our community is facing. Sometimes with humor 😀. Below are my main takeaways. For additional details, check the presentations on the Green IO New York website and check the conference booklet for an overview.
Sustainability is not just an ethical concern — it's a practical, financial, and strategic imperative. Moving from intention to implementation requires measurable actions, tools, and organizational buy-in.

EV comes up trumps again with E107 on cloud infrastructure, efficiency & sustainability, and E108 on hardware standards. And as our energy systems become more distributed, electrified, and digitally connected, this episode from The Inevitable podcast discusses how to protect critical infrastructure from cyber attacks, resonating nicely with our E35 (with Mary Prokhorova and Michael J.Oghia) which explored the intricate relationship between cyber security and environmental sustainability.
The excellent MIT Technology Review supertopic series entitled Power Hungry: AI and our energy future details the state of AI's energy and resource usage, where it is now, where it is headed in the years to come. A must-read for anyone working in Green IT.
The much awaited V2 of the Climate Product Management Playbook dropped earlier this month, containing case studies and best practices organized in 6 chapters (including the addition of an AI-specific chapter).
